So you wonder why you should learn body language and what benefits you can get from learning body language? I’ve put in my fair share of hours learning body language, so here’s my opinion on why you should learn body language.

There are definitely multiple benefits of learning body language. Because you get a better understanding about what other people are thinking, you’re going to have better conversations. You can also use your own body language to get people to perceive you the way you want. Sometimes it might for example be beneficial for you if people saw you as a confident person. Another thing is that having a confident body language actually tricks your brain to make you feel more confident.

The biggest benefit of learning body language is of course to be able to get into a person’s head. People don’t often tell you how they really feel about something, but when you get good at reading body language, they don’t need to tell you. You just watch their body language and you instantly know what they’re feeling. When people think about body language they also often think about catching liars. This is done by knowing what a person is feeling. When most people lie, they don’t feel comfortable and this can bee seen in their body language.

Let dive a little deeper into all the different benefits.

Have Better conversations

Because you have a much easier time to understand what people are feeling, you’re going to have better conversations. Because you can tell if someone finds a topic interesting or not, it’s easy for you to navigate through different topics and choose the one most beneficial to you.

Understand How they perceive you

This is something that a lot of people don’t give much thought, but it really is a powerful thing to use. Both in your working life but also in you private life.

If you have a work where you are in contact with customers or if you’re a salesman, businessman, some kind of boss or leader. It’s often beneficial for you if other people are seeing you as a confident person. Simply because people are going to trust you more, which makes it easier for you to make a deal or sell something. If you try to sell a product and you don’t show confidence. People might believe that you don’t even believe in your own product. In a situation like that it’s going to be very hard to get a lot of sales.

Of course, learning body language isn’t only going to help you in your business life. It’s equally helpful in your private life. With a confident body language it’s going to be easier to make friends and it is probably not coming as a surprise that people that are searching for a sexual partner finds it attractive when someone shows confidence.

Understand them on a deeper level

As we already have said body language give you clues about what a person is feeling. This makes you understand people on a much deeper level. This is going to give you an higher EQ (emotional intelligence). Your friends are going to like you more and you’re definitely going to have a better relationship with your partner when you’re able to understand them better.

It doesn’t matter in what situation you’re in, the more information you got, the better off you are.

Know when to back off or go deeper

If you’re just getting to know a person, you don’t know what that person likes to talk about yet. Fortunately for you their body language give you clues whether they are excited or not about your current topic. You also get direct signals when someone feels uncomfortable talking about something in their life, then you have a chance to simply change topic and navigate around that to help out the other person.

Catch liars

This is perhaps the first thing that people think about when they hear somebody talk about body language. That was definitely my case and it was a big reason why I even started to learn and practice reading body language. Today I don’t feel that this is such an big benefit for me though. I have realised that at least in my life there aren’t that many important lies to catch, but it’s a fun skill to have anyway.

On the other side though, even when you’re excellent at reading body language, you are still going to be wrong at times when trying to catch liars. Specially when it’s about people that you don’t really know. It’s much easier with good friends, because you know how they are functioning. The reason why it can be so hard to catch a liar is because you often look for signals of stress that comes with lying. Unfortunately stress doesn’t only show up when you’re lying, so you should never jump to any conclusions too fast. The best way to catch liars though is to always look for multiple things like stress, incongruent body language and the timing of all the signals.

It’s also important to remember that the more time you have to observe someone, the more information you have on that person and the more likely you are to get to a more accurate conclusion.

This is what I feel is the biggest reasons to why you should learn body language. Let us know in the comment section what you think!
